Students at Elm Street Elementary spent a week recently collecting items to send to Haiti earthquake victims.
As the students have done in the past with Katrina and the tsunami, they are reaching out to help those in need. “Quarters for Quakes” is one of the ways they are helping by bringing in money. The students and teachers also collected clothes and shoes to send at a later date.
Pictured here are some of the many thoughtful students who donated. Classes also worked with volunteers from Trinity United Methodist Church who came to help stuff personal care bags with toiletries: toothpaste and a toothbrush, a bar of soap, a washcloth, a lollipop, and a caring note personalized by the student.
“I’m sorry your land broke down,” wrote first-grader Caesar Rubio.
Thinking of others less fortunate is not a new concept to Elm Street students. However, it is an important concept for all children to learn. These gifts will be included in the community drive initiated in Rome.
