Rome and Floyd County’s top SAT takers will be honored this week at a lunch banquet during the Exchange Club of Rome’s weekly meeting.
The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition program recognizes the student who achieves the highest SAT score in his or her high school while also having the a grade-point average in the top 10 percent of their class.
Each high school STAR Student is asked to name his/her STAR Teacher. High school STAR Students compete for system titles; and system STAR Students in turn compete for region honors in the 12 STAR Regions. Region winners and their STAR teachers are invited to Atlanta to compete for the state STAR scholarships and awards.
The STAR program is an effort of the Professional Association of Georgia Educators Foundation. During the past 51 years, the STAR program has honored more than 21,500 high school seniors who have in turn chosen their STAR Teachers to share in this recognition.
Local 2010 STAR Students and Teachers are:
Armuchee High: Lauren Michelle Collins and Mrs. Leigh Burnham
Coosa High: Stanely Luke Weeks and Mr. William Daughtry
Darlington: Andrew John White and Mrs. Beth Wilson
Model High: Sarah Kay Lively and Mrs. Kelly Dooley
Pepperell High: Keith Colton Jeris and Mrs. Tina Rush
Rome High: Kerem Michael Trolander and Mr. Andy Blackburn
The banquet to honor these STAR Students and Teachers will be Friday at noon at the Palladium. The Regional STAR event will be held March 16 at Coosa Country Club.
