Georgia Health Sciences University announced Thursday that Georgia Regents University Augusta will be the name used in the school's official logo and in marketing efforts for Augusta's new consolidated university.
Controversy erupted in Augusta when the new school name was chosen for the merger of two Augusta colleges. State officials chose the name Georgia Regents University.
A group of local businessmen formed a group "Save the A," whose leaders met with state officials to try and broker a compromise.
Georgia Health Sciences University said in Thursday's statement that Augusta would appear in the logo and in "all branding materials" for the new university.
