Two Cedartown firefighters were presented with Valor Awards during the Monday, Dec. 10 city commission meeting.

Firefighters Lucas Green and Ryan Dobbs were presented with the awards for heroic efforts displayed during a November 15 house fire. Cedartown City Commissioners also issued a proclamation honoring the two firemen for their brave and gallant actions.

The fire seriously injured Cedartown resident Mark Jordan. Jordan’s wife. Virginia, was also injured.

Both Green and Dobbs, the city’s youngest firefighters, entered in to the burning home and pulled Mr. Jordan to safety. He was unconscious at the time of rescue and remains in Grady Hospital recovering from burns over 40 percent of his body.

Members of Jordan’s family were also present during the ceremony and expressed their gratitude to the firefighters through hugs and tears.

“We just want to thank you for being such heroes,” said Jodi Duncan. “You took a lot of risk and showed a lot of courage to go in the house. Thank you for saving my father.”
