Two adults and a baby were sent to a local hospital Friday from a two-vehicle wreck that occurred on Rockmart Highway near its intersection with Chateau Drive on Friday at about 3:15 p.m.

According to Floyd County police officer Chad Matthews:

Jody Leigh Coleman, 24, of Shannon, was in her Firebird attempting to make a left turn out of Chateau Drive onto Rockmart Highway when she pulled out in front of Carolyn Cheek driving an Oldsmobile Aurora heading toward Rome.

The vehicles collided, and the Aurora traveled an estimated 150 feet until the driver drove off the shoulder and landed down the embankment.

Coleman was alert and responsive after the wreck and was taken to Floyd Medical Center for evaluation.

Matthews said the baby in the car with her was fine but was taken also for a check-up.

Coleman will be charged with failure to yield.

Matthews said he found marijuana in the Aurora, but the drugs were not related to the wreck. However, charges are pending for Cheek.
