Berry football: Berry’s first-season roster expands with 19 commits

Nineteen additional high school student-athletes have committed to the Berry College football team.

The student-athletes have been accepted at Berry and will join the program for its inaugural football season this September. They join 28 others who previously announced their commitments.

“We are very excited about the young men who are joining us,” said head coach Tony Kunczewski. “This group adds to what is already a great first recruiting class. We are off to a great start and have a very strong foundation for our program. We will post and release the information about more student-athletes joining the program as the information becomes available.”

Arriving from nearby Cave Spring and Pepperell is offensive lineman Mitchell Scoggins. He was picked to the Class AA All-State Football Second Team, the 7-AA All-Region Football Team, all-area first team, was tabbed an Academic All-American by Georgia Football Magazine.

Joining the Vikings from South Mecklenberg in Charlotte, N.C., is quarterback Alex Adams. He set the school single-game passing record with 390 yards, and also played basketball. He is a member of the National Honor Society, the Beta Club, the National Technical Honor Society, the Key Club, Lettermen’s Club and FCA.

Linenacker Connor Allen is also from South Mecklenburg in Charlotte, N.C. He was defensive player of the year, earned the most improved player award, and earned the South Charlotte Weekly Student Athlete of the Year honor.

Allen was the Bronko Nagurski Student Athlete of the Year and earned a 4.5 GPA. He is President of the Letterman’s Club, a member of the National Honors Society, BETA Club and student council.

Avery Archer is from Sandersville and Washington County.

An offensive lineman, he was tabbed to the 2012 Georgia AAA All-State Team, All-Middle Georgia Team, all-area Team, 3AAA All-Region Team, CSRA Elite 27 Team and started in the 2012 CSRA Senior Bowl.

He earned four offensive player of the week awards, and graded a team-best 94 percent on the offensive line. Allen earned the Anderson Binion Student Athlete Award (highest GPA on team.3.9).

Ethan Baker is comes from Talking Rock and Pickens County. A three-year letter winner, he is a tight end. Baker is a member of the BETA Club and FCA.

From Eastside and Covington is Cameron Boyd. He was a four-year varsity letter winner, and his team was crowned regional champions when he was a freshman. Boyd was a team captain and served on leadership council all four years.

Jake Bruce comes to Berry College from Knoxville, Tenn., and Farragut. He played receiver on offense and was free safety on defense.

A two-year football starter he was the leader in solo tackles. He twice won the community service award for Farragut. He also played basketball and rugby, was active in Future Business Leaders of America, the Knoxville Teen Board, and the Health Occupational Students of America.

Wide receiver Josh Bullock joins Berry College football from Dacula. He lettered two seasons in football and was selected the 2012 Gwinnett County September Player of the Month.

Stuart Glassic arrives in Mount Berry from Sequoyah in Woodstock A running back, he was the football MVP, all county, a county track champion at 100M and 200M, earned the best sprinter award and placed fourth in the weightlifting championship.

Malcholm Graham is from Whitewater and Fayetteville. A defensive back, he participated in football and track.

Graham was named first team all-region and second team all-county.

Ron Harris is a wide receiver from Walnut Grove in Loganville He was named to the all-state academic team last year, earned the Coca-Cola Student-Athlete Award and is a UGA Merit Scholar.

Arriving from Powell and Knoxville, Tenn., is Brody Huskey. A linebacker, he lettered three years for the two-time district champions and 2012 state semifinalists.

Jake Jones is from Middleburg, Fla., and Middleburg. A wide receiver, he was picked 6A All-Conference honorable mention. Jones had 83 Receptions for 1,466 Yards, and 12 TDs.

Offensive lineman Roby Jernigan joins the Vikings via Brunswick and Glynn Academy. He participated in football and track.

Drew McCollum joins the BC football program from Marietta. A linebacker, he was all-region, a Cobb County All-Star and and earned the scholastic award.

Hailing from Griffin and Griffin Christian is linebacker Matthew Moore. He participated in football and baseball and earned the best defensive player two times.

Austin Post will come to Berry after attending Hiram.

A defensive end, Post was team captain (two years), and was voted HHS Player of the Year by Paulding County.

Quarterback Adam Sandin joins Berry from Creekside and Saint Johns, Fla. He was a three-year varsity starter at QB, was tabbed all-county twice, and was a three-time St. Augustine Record Player of the Week honoree.

James Young joins the Vikes from Columbus, and Northside. The defensive end was picked honorable mention, and earned the team’s top lifter award.
