Some of Rome’s strongest young runners competed in the Foot Locker Cross Country South Regional in Charlotte, N.C., this weekend. The event, which features the top runners from 16 states, offered competitors a chance to qualify for the national event in San Diego on Dec. 8.

Berry College cross country coach Paul Deaton and his sons, Jared (freshman runner for Darlington School) and John-Prosser, have raced several times at the Footlocker Regional. Paul raced in the Open 5K division, Jared in the Freshman boys division, and John Prosser in the 11-12 boys.

Kinslee Clevenger and Lauren Hooper, who are stars of Darlington’s cross country team, made their first appearance at the Foot Locker event, running in the sophomore girls division and capping off a strong season. Spencer Fields raced a solid performance in the Sophomore Boys race.

Model’s Chris Akins competed in the Boy’s Championship race, competing with over 300 of the nation’s best runners.

Two of Darlington’s youth runners placed in the top 30, medaling and receiving “All South Team” honors. Clay Milford placed 25th in the 12-13 boys division, and Kennan Milford placed 25th in the 10-11 boys division.
