Metropolitan United Methodist Church on Broad Street will be having its first ever wild hog fundraiser today. Anyone with a big appetite is invited to come by and grab a plate.
“It took them all day to cook it,” said the Rev. King Harris. “They started Thursday morning about 8 a.m. and stayed here until time didn’t register anymore.”
The wild hog was donated to the church by Roman Greg Casey. According to Harris, Casey is known for hunting a lot during the Christmas season and donating his kills to families who wouldn’t have Thanksgiving or Christmas meals otherwise.
“We’ve always talked about it, but this is the first time we’ve done a wild hog,” Harris said. “This will be my first time eating wild hog.”
Plates will start being served at 10 a.m. and will continue until they run out. Plates can include anything from pork chops, ribs to sausage, all cooked from the wild hog, and sides such as baked beans, slaw and sodas. Each plate will cost anywhere from $8 to $10.
“Usually our turnouts are very good,” Harris said. “You get to know people you didn’t know before. The fellowship is really great at events like this.”
