Floyd County Schools will host a countywide financial aid workshop Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Pepperell High School auditorium.

The financial aid event is co-sponsored by guidance counselors Jan Mendence of Model and Heather Whitfield of Pepperell, with counselors from Armuchee and Coosa also on hand to answer questions.

“This event is primarily aimed at seniors and their parents, but underclassmen and their families are welcome,” said Whitfield.

The hour-long program will begin with a presentation about financial aid resources and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid by Ron Day, director of financial aid at Kennesaw State University.

“He does a good job at making very complex information easy to understand for those who do not work with it all the time,” said Whitfield.

After the presentation, Day and the county’s four high school guidance counselors will field questions from parents and students.

Whitfield said this program has good timing since many parents will soon file their income taxes and a filled-out 1040 is needed to complete the FAFSA.

All parents should fill out the FAFSA to find out if their children are eligible for aid and because many colleges require it for students receiving any type of funding, Whitfield added.
