Jay and Nazira Momim, owners of the Dairy Queen on Spider Webb Drive, answer the questions for today’s Small Business Snapshot.



What is the primary purpose of your business? To offer Romans a wide variety of food – freshly cooked – seven days a week for lunch and dinner. Our ice cream, Blizzards, shakes and desserts are also a major aspect of our business.



What is your business background? The last 25 years we have owned Dairy Queen stores. In fact most of the family is involved in the operation of Dairy Queen stores in Georgia. All of our brothers and sisters have Dairy Queen restaurants in Georgia or Alabama.



Why did you start in this particular business? We were influenced by the family’s booming business in the Dairy Queen system. Rome is not really urban and not what you’d call rural. Rome is not crowded like Atlanta, there is much less of a crime problem so we love it here. We have been in Rome for 12 years.

What makes your business unique? First of all, Dairy Queen itself is very unique. DQ food is delicious and it makes the DQ experience all the more better.



What do you enjoy most about your chosen profession? We enjoy meeting new people every day and are proud to be able to serve them freshly cooked food and yummy ice cream.



What has been the biggest challenge to overcome as a small business owner? When we bought the Dairy Queen, the store had not been remodeled in a long time. When we took over we allocated money every year, a little more every year, and that has made a huge difference. Now, the interior of the store has a completely different look. My employees work very hard to keep the store clean. Our customers really appreciate the effort they make toward cleanliness.



Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers? After all of the years in Rome, we appreciate on a daily basis all of the business that Romans have brought to us.
