Gov. Bob Riley has awarded $117,133 to help two organizations to continue assisting domestic violence victims and increasing awareness of available support services in four north Alabama counties.

Victims Services of Cullman Inc. will use an $80,900 grant to continue a violence prevention program aimed at changing behaviors of abusers and holding them accountable for their actions. The grant also will help continue counseling services for children.

A $36,233 grant to the Marshall County Coalition Against Domestic Violence will help the organization increase awareness of domestic violence, prevention methods and the availability of assistance for victims. The coalition, which serves Marshall, DeKalb and Cherokee counties, will conduct dating-violence prevention presentations to students at area schools.
