John Downey Jr. is moving his Downey Metal Products business from 8907 Oothcalooga Street to the former Stair Parts manufacturing facility, 200 Princeton Boulevard in Adairsville.

Downey said the move would not be a turnkey move, since about half of the new facility is being remodeled to accommodate a powder coating system.

“A lot of the products that we manufacture have to be painted,” Downey said. Since one half of the building will be taken up with the powder coating system and the other half designed to receive my manufacturing equipment, we will be making the transition from Calhoun down to Adairsville but it won’t be immediate.”

He hopes to have the powder coating system ready and op-erating by October. He is projecting the need to add another 30 employees over the next two to three years.

The complete move to Adairsville is expected to take place in 2013 but that could happen a little quicker if someone comes along and wants to lease the entire building in Cal-houn.

Downey Metal specializes in architectural and ornamental metal components used in a variety of applications from construction to exhibit and display as well as the hospitality industry.

The firm manufactures handrail systems, rail systems, canopies sunshade, cladding and other products.

Since 1997, Downey Metal Products has been producing high quality products that Downey learned from his father in the suburbs of Atlanta almost 50 years ago.

People interested in filing applications for the new jobs in Adairsville can submit those applications at the existing plant in Calhoun.
