WITH ANOTHER BLOCK PARTY now set and approved to take place on Broad Street the downtown may be on the verge of a new “something big.” Circle Friday, Oct. 26, from 7 to 10 p.m. on your calendar for a “night out” on lower Broad with traffic shut down, outside alcohol consumption acceptable and right at or after the dinner hour along Rome’s ever-growing “restaurant row.”

The first event, on Sept. 7, went off flawlessly and drew an underestimate of “more than 1,000” people with a heavy visibility of families with children, dancing in the streets and a near-invisible police presence seeming almost unnecessary given how well-behaved everyone was.

Hmm … and this one will be right before Halloween as well, which increasingly is a “big deal” for adults as well as children. Costumes encouraged?
