FAIRBURN, Ga. (AP) — School officials south of Atlanta told parents that one of the parent volunteers is on the Georgia sex offender list.

Bear Creek Middle School Principal Darron Franklin told parents at the Fairburn school that the school system will review the volunteer approval process to make sure it doesn't happen again.

WSB-TV reports that students at Bear Creek Middle School and Creekside High School say the volunteer handed out pizza at football games. Fulton County sheriff's officials say the man also went on field trips and was around children multiple times.

A school system official told WSB the volunteer passed a background check because he used a different name on his application, and it didn't match the sex registry. School officials say he has been banned from school property.

@ Abbi - I understand what you're saying but, whether he is on probation or not, I think simply being on the sex offenders list automatically prohibits him from being around children/schools. If this is so, shouldn't he be arrested for that? Or maybe he's on the list for having sex with his 17 year old girl friend just after he turned 18 years old and he isn't prohibited from being around children. Who knows. Not enough info.

This is a violation of this mans probation. Was he arrested and put in jail? So sad that our kids are not safe anywhere anymore....

It says nothing about him being on probation. Probation & being on the registry are 2 different things. They coincide alot obviously but being on registry doesn't mean he was on probation anymore. Just giving facts.
