Campbellsville University senior Conor Young, the former Rome High standout, is the NAIA’s No. 1-ranked wreslter in the 157-pd weight class.

Young moved to the top of the poll when the latest NAIA Coaches’ Top 20 Poll was released by the national office Wednesday.

Young (14-2) recently went 4-1 against NCAA Division II competition en route to a runner-up finish at the University of Indianapolis Midwest Classic, Dec. 14-15.

He has not lost in NAIA action this season and currently holds a 94-39 record entering January. He is 47-8 since the start of his junior season.

“Conor beat the national champ twice last year, he beat (Grand View’s) Chad Lowman at nationals and he is wrestling even better this year so he has definitely earned that ranking,” said Franky James, CU wrestling coach.

“Some of our other guys aren’t getting any respect in the rankings, but we have national duals coming up pretty soon.

All of our guys will get some big matches and have an opportunity to earn a higher ranking.

Campbellsville fell two spots to No. 6 in the team rankings with 71 points.
