AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — Georgia Health Sciences University Cancer Center has signed a scientific cooperation agreement with a leading French cancer institute.

Officials say the agreement between the school in Augusta and the Curie Institute in Paris will provide numerous opportunities for cooperation over the next five years.

The institutions plan to develop joint research activities, participate in faculty exchanges and develop a doctoral and postdoctoral student exchange program.

Dr. Samir N. Khleif, director of the GHSU Cancer Center, says the agreement "will lead to a better understanding of cancer and the basic mechanisms of response to drug therapies."
