In this time of “enlightenment” you would think that people would know better than to pollute the atmosphere by burning leaves and brush (natural resources). Not only is the smoke harmful to those of us who have asthma and bronchitis, but also mercury and other volatile toxins are released into the atmosphere to eventually land on the earth and get into the water.

From there, the fish and other waterborne organisms pick it up. Some people eat the fish, etc., and are high risk, like pregnant women and chronically ill individuals. Walker Mountain Recycling Center has a larger collection area for recycling leaves, brush and trees. There is no cost to families with small amounts to deposit them there. This is ground and made available as mulch and/or used to restore parts of the recycling center. Please do not burn our natural resources that can be beneficial for our use and not harmful.
