LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Serious faith goes into the ballot box

THE POPULATION of the United States stands at more than 300 million. Of this number, 78 percent claim to be Christian. Some take their faith seriously, but some do not. If one takes his faith seriously it must go into the ballot box.

If someone calls himself a Christian and is serious about it, he or she will take seriously what the Bible says. The Bible is our guide as to what we believe. The Bible is very definitely opposed to homosexuality. The Bible calls it an abomination. The Bible is against same sex marriage. The Bible is against abortion, because it is killing a person. The Bible is against stealing. The government never gives anyone anything unless it takes from someone else. When our government taxes excessively and spends recklessly, it is stealing.

The Democratic Party platform approves each of these Bible prohibitions. It is inconceivable to me that a Christian could go brazenly against what God says. The party had a problem even with keeping the mention of God in their platform. Every Bible ever printed states that God gave the Jewish people the right to the land of Palestine as an eternal possession. Christians are to agree with God.

The Bible says “to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.” It is never right to do wrong, and it is never wrong to do right. God help Christians to go into the ballot box and remember what the Bible says. Our first duty is to please God — not man, not our emotions.

Consider King Cyrus when you start putting so much emphasis on religion in areas where we are to render unto Caesar....If religion is your standard by which you determine who to vote for then if you have problems with one guy's pastor and his stand on the gay lifestyle, then vote for the guy who wears magic underwear and who has personally baptized the dead.

Trelicious,

You wrote:That's because you believe that taking multiple subjects and somehow intertwining them with the successes of Democrats and the failures of Republicans somehow makes you a multi-trick pony.

I reply: Dude...That entire sentence is nonsensical.....

Life is complicated as are issues. Successes of the Obama administration in attempting to help middle class families are easily found.

All the while congress has blocked every initiative this president has put forth.

Why no anger for them?

Why would you vote for someone who will most definitely make your life worse?

You provide an ambiguous example about law enforcement officers being dishonored but fail to specify your complaint. Why not?

You blather about house vouchers, free cell phones and other discredited racist right wing lies and expect no one to see your true reasons for not voting for the president?

Then you lash out when confronted?

Go ahead vote for the white guy....you know you want to...

Funny you bring up race. That's his only accomplishment, first black president. Too bad he couldn't have been a good one. Usually being the first open doors for others, he's slamming them, locking them and welding them shut. All black candidates will now be viewed in the light of "what if he turns out to be like Obama?"

I reluctantly voted for Obama in the last election. Within weeks he had dishonored all law enforcement officers by calling them stupid without knowing the facts of the situation. I knew then that I had wasted my vote.

I was brimming with pride the night he gave his acceptance speech and when he took his oath. I shake my head when I look back on those days. Full of hope that there would be change.

I'm not one to say that the economy was caused by Obama, it certainly was not. However, he has not helped me or my family once in the past four years. If my husband made a little less money, perhaps Obama would give us free food, or a voucher for our house, car or cell phone. Instead, he drives 45 minutes each way to work to patrol the slums of outer Atlanta. He makes enough to keep us off the quickly expanding welfare roster.

He is a big disappointment. Point to nothing good that he has done, because the accomplishments do not exist.

The more I look at the intellect, morality and work ethic of the typical American, the more I'm convinced that we deserve exactly what we have.

That's because you believe that taking multiple subjects and somehow intertwining them with the successes of Democrats and the failures of Republicans somehow makes you a multi-trick pony. In fact, it cannot hide the fact that you're a lonely, bitter old jackass.

I am not sure how this thread veered off discussing a hateful letter from a self described man of god to President Obama's election prospects.

But I am always willing to engage on this topic since the right wingers so seldom visit the reality based world.

So here is a prediction for tomorrow that they can feel free to cast stones at.

First, it seems that the conflict between state polls showing Obama ahead in most swing states, and national polls showing a tie or a slight Romney lead is being resolved in the Presidents favor. The Rasmussen and Gallup national polls are shifting toward Obama.

I feel confident that Obama will win New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota, where his polls leads, small or large, have been consistent.

I am also confident that the president will win Nevada, and Colorado. There's empirical evidence that conventional polling in the Southwest undercounts Hispanics, and therefore understates Democratic support.

Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida, look too close to call according to the data today. But based on the momentum being in Obama's direction in the last few days, I'm going to call all three of them for Obama, though I expect his margins in those states to be very narrow.

The above scenario resulted in an Electoral College landslide of 347-191. Boo Yah.......

Note that even if Obama loses Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida -- the three states I'm least confident about he would still win 290-248.

Still Boo Yah....But I want to totally crush the GOP/TP so hopefully the country will run up the score.

So even if Florida delivers another hanging-chad 50-50 nightmare like in 2000, the national outcome won't depend on it.

I know that 347-191 is a bigger landslide than serious pundits are predicting, but this is my honest sense of where things stand.

I believe that President Obama's popular-vote margin to be smaller than in 2008....

However it will be large enough to quell the inevitable right winger claims of having been robbed or cheated in some way.

Because you you know whenever the Right Wing has to interact with the reality based world they act like spoiled five year olds.

In their minds there is no way the country doesn't think like they do......they will need a Wahhhhhhaaaammmbulance.

In any case, we could know the outcome pretty early tomorrow evening. If Florida is called for Obama, it's game over -- Romney has no chance.

If Florida is called for Romney or is too close to call right away, it will take longer to know the national winner.

BTW Democrats will retain the Senate and maybe increase their numbers by a couple.

In a perfect storm the GOP/TP would lose the house but I think that is unlikely.

But....hey.....I can hope....

LiedToAgainAndAgain,

I could have written your rebuttal from memory dude....

I have nothing to prove......(Cause you can't)

You're a bully.....(ooooh you hurt my feelings)

Obama....BAD...Not real Murican....Not Patriot....

Not my words.....This is what comes out of FOX daily...

You right wingers use the word patriot as an epitaph aimed at those who do not share your viewpoints.

Don't like it so much when it comes back at you though?

LiedToAgainAndAgain,

It looks like Benghazi is the latest issue you are wailing about.

I had the unfortunate two days ago experience to be in an airport lounge that had those FOX idiots on a show called "The Five" playing.

Whooeeee...They need to all get mental help.

Maybe you might consider it?

They recounted your entire post below almost verbatim.

So...... that answers the question as to whether you are capable of original thought.

The answer would be a resounding NO....

On the other hand..... in the reality based world every new piece of evidence continues to refute your version of events.

So as Voter has challenged if you have empirical evidence and facts to support your inane blithering then please share them..

Come on...I am waiting..

Benghazi was a tragedy and Americans sacrificed their lives for their country.

Yet you right wing "Patriots" want to use the event to slander the president.

It's odious and vile.

But hey....Free speech means sometimes enduring idiots so....please continue...

It's still just BS.

I am guessing that you will have a lot of anger issues Tuesday night after President Obama is reelected.

Tssk, tssk! Looks like you're back to your own boring and predictable playground bully taunts and rants, rhuidean07. That broad smear brush that you use on everyone really is quite comical. Playing fast and loose with your own supposed "facts" once again, I see.

In reality, I have nothing to prove to you. After all, there's no need to cast pearls to the swine, right?

So I'll just repeat my post follow up to Voter, inserting your own name instead.

"My post is accurate. Evidently you do not pay attention at all to the news, at least not to anything that is reliable.

1. Stephens DID make several calls asking for help. McCain and others have asked for their release.

2. The two seals were told to "stand down." Senators and congressmen are requesting the release of information as to who told them not to come to the Ambassadors aid, and the Obama administration have stonewalled them. Look it up.

3. The two seals, after hearing the tapes, chose to disobey orders and went to our ambassadors aid. Look it up.

4. The seals remained in contact with their higher command, requested help, gave out coordinates, gave coordinates as to the location of where the mortar positions were, and help never came. It's on record. Look it up.

5. Obama, Biden, several advisers and the military brass all met in the White House less than 45 minutes after the attack came in. There were 10 cameras in the compound recording and sending the pictures back in real time. Two drones also were dispatched with camera viewing. Look it up.

6. We DO NOT KNOW what went on in Obama's office WITH THE MILITARY BRASS in the room. In the past, Obama always...and I mean always...recorded what went on and released photo opt pictures for the press to see what a concerned and sharp man he was. If the Stephens incident had gone well, Obama would be the first one to toot his own horn and thump his own chest. THAT, however, is just my own conjecture.

Rhuidean07, you attacked me vilely and personally. You used childish insults in your description of me.

Your petty hate attacks toward me are rather comical. It's been a very long time since I've been in the 3rd grade. I thought language and insults like that disappeared once childhood came to an end.

Use your insults on someone else. They have no effect at all on me."

Rhuidean07, you really do need to get back to the real world. If you have failed to follow the regular news and not listened to a slew of senators and congressmen questioning the president over Benghazi, well, that's your problem. Perhaps taking a break from MSNBC and the Comedy Channel for your news reports would help.

Is part of the investigation political in nature? Absolutely. Both sides do it.

Was there much to be desired in the overall handling of the situation? Absolutely.

Did the Obama administration deceive and mislead the public for over two weeks? Absolutely. Obama can be given some slack, perhaps, for the first couple of days, but forget it after that.

Did the Obama administration send out a cadre of political hacks to all of the Sunday media outlets speaking in unison the Obama mantra line on blaming a video for a "spontaneous" riot? Absolutely.

And the list could go on and on and on.

It happened on 9/11, the day of the year when our security concerns are at their highest level.

Biden and Obama had been touting "GM's alive and Bin Laden is dead!" and so the terrorists decided to slap us in the face and let us know that they're more than just alive.

Not only should questions be asked about the bumbling by the administration on this situation, but answers should be given. Everyone should be held accountable for their actions, whether good or bad, from the president all the way down to the last commanding officer.

Is Obama stonewalling until after the election? Absolutely.

Have parents of the 4 dead men been ticked off with Obama and the administration in general over the deaths of their loved ones? You better believe it, for several have spoken out in public. Read them yourself.

Being a proud American has nothing to do with left or right. You use "patriot" as a slur, dude. So anyone, white or black, liberal or conservative, who thinks the President failed in properly handling the Benghazi situation is a patriot nut according to you?

Disgusting, rhuidean07. Absolutely disgusting.

Ambassador Stephens, before dying, had made several phone calls that he sent out in which he described the attack going on and pleading for help...help that never came due to Obama's bungling of the situation. The calls were recorded, as is standard procedure, by our intelligence community.

Two navy seals were given the order to "stand down" and to do nothing after hearing the cries for help. They disobeyed orders, and gave aid and support, paying with their lives.

These phone calls SHOULD BE MADE PUBLIC by Obama and his cronies. The American people deserve to hear every single word that Stephens used in his asking for assistance, as well as the words given in response to his plea for help.

Obama was in the Oval Office within 45 minutes after the attack began, along with Biden, other advisers, and his top military brass. What happened? Why no help? Why the instructions/orders for the military to "stand their ground" and not to give aid?

You can be guaranteed that Obama FILMED the entire event, to use, like at other times, as Photo Props to advance the idea of his "being in charge" and watching the events live as they unfold.

Obama...release the film! Show us how you FAILED in your job as Commander In Chief. This goes both ways, Mr. President. Release the taped meeting...release Stephens pleas for help in his last hour of life....release the tapes on the Navy Seals asking for assistance...Show us how you failed...MAN UP, you lying sack of manure! The families of the men you personally CHOSE to desert and left to die deserve it. NO MAN LEFT BEHIND has lost its entire meaning.

Ron Leaves Home

Amy & Sam had triplets. Four fine boys who grew up together, attended the same school, played the same sports, and made similar grades. When they were fifteen they began turning into four very different young men.

Ron developed into a book worm. He spent his spare time studying, reading, researching and soaking up every ounce of knowledge he came across. He made the local paper after winning a math bee and was picked up for the summer by an engineering firm who hoped to recruit him once he was in college. They paid him $1500 per week for the summer.

Timmy wanted to be wealthy, but couldn’t wait. He took a part-time job in construction making several hundred dollars a week during school and $800 a week during the summer break. This was a lot of money for a young man.

Elliott had no desire to be wealthy. Elliott had little desire at all other than to master the latest release of his favorite video game series. He did what he needed to do to keep up his solid C average in school, and spent the remainder of his time with a video game controller, soda and snack foods.

Joe was the bad boy of the bunch. His speech was one long curse-a-rama with a few words of English spattered in. He stole from his parents, stole from the neighbors, spent most of his money on drugs, skipped school and officially listed his hobby as vandalism.

The year following their sixteenth birthday Amy and Sam decided that in the interest of “fairness” and because they were “all together in this experiment we call life” that Timmy would have to share his money with his brothers. Timmy was outraged. Mom explained “Timmy, were it not for the support that your brothers have given you while growing up, you would not have the drive that you do.” Mom continued “For the remainder of the summer Timmy will keep $400 of his earnings and split the other $400 amongst Elliott and Joe. We can’t allow Joe and Elliott to go without because that would be inhumane. Sure you’re keeping only half of what you earn, but Joe and Elliott aren’t quite getting as much as you, so it all works out in the end.”

Ron, having overheard all of this from an adjoining room, and being the type who never started trouble and was quick to soothe tensions, walked in the room and proudly stated “Mom, I will give half of my earnings, that will be $750 per week I will share.”

Mom shook her head slowly and glared at Ron “My son, you’re one of the lucky ones. You make more than the rest of your brothers, so you must ‘share’ more of your money.”

“But Mom! $750 IS more than $400.”

“Yes, but that’s not enough. You have to pay more than half because you make more. You see son, your brothers don’t care about the fact that you will be giving them more money than Timmy, they want to make sure you know that they are the beneficiary of and the controllers of the fruits of your labor. It’s not how much you pay, but how much it hurts. I deem your share to be 25% and your brothers to be 75%”

Several weeks later, Timmy quit his job. He realized that it was stupid to work for $400 a week, when he could sit at home and get his share, 1/3 of the spoils of the plunder from Ron. $375 to sit at home, $400 to work.

After that summer, Ron left disgusted.

Jrbobcat,

You Wrote: It would be hilarious watching the liberals trying to figure out what to do if all the conservatives suddenly left the country or just stopped working for a few months.

I reply: It would be hilarious to for all your "real Muricans" to go away and find out we are better off. Please Oh please....Arrange a mass Conservative exodus...

Talmadge,

The bible advicates death for homosexuality...Death for working on the Sabbath, Slavery, Stoning for eating shellfish or wearing clothing of different fabrics.

I notice you did not name who you would appoint as the executioner of the gays.

Christians rail all the time about how those of other faiths have it wrong...God is loving....God is forgiving they say....

Yeah right...Right up until those Christians send the first stone at the head of those they deem "Sinful"

As usual a shameful hate filled letter from you...

I guess that turn the other cheek thing is not in your belief system.

BTW Romney is going to get beaten like a drum Tuesday...

The BIBLE also tells us that divorce is wrong, that children should take careof their elderly parents and that Christians should care for the orphans and the widows. Well guess what Pastor Barnes, most of te people I know who take in the orphaned foster children in this county are DEMOCRATS, and the last time I checked the nursing homes are overflowing with widows and elderly. Maybe the abomination that you should be focusing on is the hypocritical nature if the Soutern Baptist Denomination who spendsbillions in third world countries feeding the children and IGNORING our own foster children in this country because as one lovely pastor in this town once said " our government will take care of ours ". I do not personally believe in abortion but God help us all if we didn't have it because the church surely hasn't done anything in this town to take care of orphans! Donating a few hundred dollars a year to Open Door Home and Murphy Harpst is a JOKE!
LiedToAgainAndAgain

October 31, 2012
Sorry, ohmy!, but your statement about most of the individuals who take in orphaned foster children is totally flawed and bogus, and you know it. What kind of a point are you trying to make? Most of the major orphanages are church related and sponsored, and what you stated goes contrary to the truth.

As to nursing homes, are you saying that the ungodly and/or unfaithful never end up with a spouse or parent in a nursing home? What a load of crock!

Every person, those of faith as well as nonfaith, sometimes have to make hard decisions. My dad had alzheimers/dementia....Mom, half way across the country, took care of him as best as she could. She had to lock herself into her own bedroom at night for safety in the end. Dad took a knife one night, tried to beat down the door, and my uncle came over to the house to calm dad down and to rescue my mother. I traveled the next day to their home, comforted mom, and dad was admitted to a nursing home. No way could my mother, my sister, or myself could handle the situation ourselves. It was a heart wrenching decision we all had to make. Within a month, dad passed away.

Your attacks toward Christians and nursing homes, orphans, etc., is both cruel as well as totally baseless and wrong. Your own bias, hatred and bigotry toward others, as well as your invalid generalizations, is uncalled for.

Everyone has decisions they must make in life....Guess you might need to heed the verses on passing judgment onto others.

My attack is against the hypocrites of certain denomination. I for one am a democrat and Methodist. I am sick and tired of being labled an athiest or Ungodly becuse I am a democrat. I am also sick and tired of people picking and choosing what parts of the Bible they want to adhere to in different social climates. My hatered and bigotry? My attack towards orphans? Please, I have taken in more orphans than you have known in a lifetime. My attack is not on the elderly and wodowed, it is most certainly on those who only choose the preach on what THEY practice!
