LINCOLNTON, Ga. (AP) — The sheriff in an east Georgia county who narrowly lost a re-election bid has filed a complaint with state officials, alleging that a dead person and felons cast ballots in the Nov. 6 election.

The Augusta Chronicle reports that Lincoln County Sheriff Gerald Lawson filed the complaint with the Georgia Secretary of State's Office.

Chris Perlera, a spokesman for the Secretary of State's Office, says an investigator has been assigned to look into the case.

The sheriff also alleged irregularities with absentee ballots in the election.

Lincoln County is about 40 miles northwest of Augusta.
