Bobby Cox, the former Atlanta skipper who retired following the 2010 season, and current Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez are both scheduled to make public appearances in Rome.
Cox will be the keynote speaker at the Shorter baseball team’s annual Meet the Team dinner this Saturday.
The event, which includes a silent auction, begins at 6 p.m. at the Huffman Center on the Darlington School campus. Tickets are $30 each, and are still available.
For more information, contact Shorter director of athletic development Rachel Rogers at rrogers@shorter.edu.
The venerable Cox, who ranks fourth in all-time wins in major league history, led the Braves to 14 straight division titles from 1991-2005, and his club won the World Series in 1995.
He was named the National League’s Manager of the Year three times, and his No. 6 jersey has been retired by the Braves.
Later this month, on Jan. 30, Gonzalez is scheduled to attend the Rome Braves’ annual Hot Stove Gathering at The Forum.
Gonzalez will be available for autographs at the event, which begins at 5:30 p.m.
Gonzalez will be joined by Danville Braves manager and former Rome Brave Jonathan Schuerholz, along with Rome manager Randy Ingle and Atlanta Braves’ third-base coach Brian Snitker.
Tickets for the Gathering are $30 each, and can be purchased at the State Mutual Stadium ticket windows or at The Forum box office.
Tickets can also be purchased online at romebraves.com.
