Jennifer Rae Derrick and Joshua James Pilgrim were married at 4 p.m. Saturday, December 31, 2011, at Medulla Baptist Church in Lakeland, Fla.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Derrick of Fort Meade, Fla. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Medlin and Mrs. Lillian Derrick and the late Mr. Frank Derrick, all of Orlando, Fla.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Pilgrim of Rome. He is the grandson of Mrs. Bettie Terhune of Rome, the late Claude Terhune Jr., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pilgrim.

The bride’s father, Rev. Frank Derrick, performed the double-ring ceremony.

Three pairs of white pillars and green foliage set the background on the stage in the church’s sanctuary. The altar also featured a unity candle with white satin ribbon. Family pews were marked with a small bouquet of white roses and red berries. The balcony banister was lined with greenery and white lights.

A program of wedding music was provided by pianist Josiah Lee, violinist Abigail Lee, guitarists and vocalists Joel and Denaye Walters, trumpeter Jim Derrick, and vocalists Sandy and Ben Derrick. Selections included “Be Thou My Vision,” “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” ”Trumpet Voluntary,” “Agnus Dei,” “One Pure and Holy Passion” and “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee.”

Joy Derrick of Fort Meade, Fla., was the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Jillian Pilgrim of Rome, Jennifer Cox of Colorado Springs, Colo., Lindsey Derrick of Hermitage, Tenn., Laura Copeland of Winter Haven, Fla., Lara Medley of Lakeland, Fla., and Kristen Chaves and Jana Williams, both of Fort Meade, Fla. Attendants wore formal length gowns of apple red satin. The strapless fitted bodice featured an A-line side-drape skirt accented with a rhinestone brooch. Bridesmaids carried hand-tied bouquets of white roses, red carnations, and red berries.

The flower girls were Marisol, Marissa, Maribel, and Mariella Tarango of Fort Meade, Fla., and Sarah Kate, Ellie, and Lauren Grady of Lakeland, Fla. The flower girls wore t-length white satin dresses with apple red satin sashes. The flower girls tossed red and white rose petals down the aisle while ringing bells to welcome the bride.

The ring bearer was Braden Williams of Fort Meade, Fla.

The bride, escorted by her father, chose a strapless formal gown of white satin with an overlay of pearls and iridescent sequins. The waist was accented with a satin belt and flower-shaped rhinestone brooch. The bride’s veil was two tiers of white illusion with pearl edging. The bride also wore a pearl necklace and pearl earrings accented with rhinestones and a pearl bracelet given to her by the groom’s grandmother. The bride carried a hand-tied bouquet of red roses.

The father of the groom was the best man. Groomsmen were Jacob Pilgrim of Rome, Ben Derrick of Fort Meade, Fla., Christopher Cox of Colorado Springs, Colo., Sandy Derrick of Hermitage, Tenn., Clint Helms of Rome, Casey Baxter of Calhoun, Blake Gilbert of Lexington, Ky., and Christopher Oliver of Rome.

The mother of the bride wore a formal navy blue gown featuring a cascading, tiered skirt with beaded detail at the waist and a matching bolero. The mother of the groom wore a black sleeveless gown featuring a black and iridescent sequined top with a flowing silk a-line skirt. Each mother carried a hand-tied miniature bouquet of white roses and red berries.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at The Lakeland Auditorium. Refreshments included the bride’s four-tiered white cream cheese frosted cake accented with white frosting pearls and red roses. The top tier displayed the couple’s initials. The groom’s cake featured yellow cake and gave the appearance of an open Bible.

The evening before the wedding, the groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at The Eaglebrooke Country Club in Lakeland, Fla.

Other pre-nuptial parties included an engagement party hosted by the groom’s parents in Rome; a miscellaneous shower given by Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church; a miscellaneous shower hosted by Bettie Terhune and Sheree Shore at Bettie Terhune’s home in Rome; a miscellaneous shower given by the bridesmaids at the home of Lory Madden in Lakeland, Fla.; a miscellaneous shower given by First Baptist Church of Fort Meade, Fla.; a personal shower given by the bridesmaids at the home of Beverly Reves in Fort Meade, Fla; and a bridal luncheon the day before the wedding hosted by First Baptist Church of Fort Meade, Fla.

After a wedding cruise to the Western Caribbean, the couple resides in Rome.
