Those pictures and stories of a naked man running down Turner McCall Boulevard that have been circulating around Rome are not fakes or rumors — they’re real.

Rome-Floyd County 911 received nine calls at about 9 a.m. one day last week about a naked male running across the bridge that spans the Oostanaula River on Turner McCall near Olive Garden, according to Phillip Wheeler of Rome Floyd 911.

Several people had stopped to take pictures of the man, said Rome police officer Lee Bowden.

Bowden and officer Glen Michaels quickly got the man into a police car and took him to the hospital. Information from 911 said police had the man in the car and on the way to Floyd Medical Center in three minutes.

The man offered an explanation of why he was running.

“He said he had taken a bunch of drugs,” Bowden said.

Kaitlin Thomas, a Rome native who lives in Atlanta but was visiting her family in Rome, said she was pulling on to the Starbucks parking lot when the nude runner suddenly appeared.

“I almost hit him and then I realized, oh my God, he’s naked!” she recalled Wednesday.

Thomas said she posted something about her experience on Facebook and the comments started flowing in. It wasn’t long before multiple pictures and even video were shared among Romans via the Internet.

“It was crazy,” said Thomas.

No charges were filed and police did not file a report.

I find this story hard to believe. This man running NAKED on Turner McCall. Police is called and they respond. The man said he did some drugs; they take him to the hospital and no charges were filed.

I'm glad they got him to the hospital and got him treated, but then he should have went right on to jail ! It's called indecent exposure !!!! Anybody else running around naked would have went to jail. I did not know it was legal to run around with no clothes on period.

It would seem he's guilt of indecent exposure, but I thing we might all be better served getting him help with his drug addiction rather than putting him on a sex offender registry.

There's nothing illegal about a three-legged race.

So glad the police did their jobs and got the guy some help, rather than throwing him in jail... that's what the community likes to hear! Bravo!

Troll- or whatever you are- you show how ignorant and narrow you short mind is. There is no test to determine existence of these new substances in the blood after Rudy Eugene's death. But that's ok. the cops in Miami talked to people he was doing drugs with before adding some "synth" to the mix. It's also excusable that your are blind and ignorant to the world in your bubble in Rome. IF you tried to educate yourself you would find out the LONG list of these very same type incidents across the nation with varying results. Go back to sleep Troll.

Rudy's toxicology reports showed no signs of bath salts you're claiming he used, bath salts contain MDPV, which would show up in the lab results. Tell me, where did you get your information? Inside of Rudy's stomach were unidentifiable undigested pills, which would completely out rule bath salts.

But thanks for your kind words, I bet that makes you feel real good.

wake up RPD. this person was taking bath salts or synthetic pot- which has PCP/LSD effects most notable stripping naked and running to cool off ones' overheating internal body temp. And the sale of bath salts and synth pot is now illegal so did RPD question him and find out where he got the stuff?? and then dig deeper and possibly save someone else from harm. lucky for this person and the public that his reaction was non-violent. some folks react violent- aka- the Miami Zombie man.

Actually, Rudy Eugene (aka Miami Zombie man) had no "bath salts" or synthetic marijuana in his system.

Good for the police this time. This guy must have been picked up by one of the few good one in Rome. Some of the others would have found multiple things to charge him with
