SHORTER VOLLEYBALL: Shorter rolls past Alabama-Huntsville in straight sets at WKC

The Shorter University volleyball squad remained undefeated at home by taking a straight set victory over visiting Gulf South Conference opponent Alabama-Huntsville, 25-23, 25-12, 25-23, on the court of the Winthrop-King Centre.

Jasmine Crook totaled 18 kills to lead the Lady Hawks; she had a career high 22 against UAH last season. Anna Graham had nine kills while Leslie Welch finished with eight more.

Shorter (12-2, 5-2 GSC) out hit UAH (9-8, 3-4 GSC) .327 to .176 for the match, with the biggest difference coming in the second set

Shorter hit a match high .423 while UAH was at -.065.

Graham hit .500 to lead the assault, with Welch at .467 and Crook at .406.

Loren Olive and Tanequa Whitman each served up two more aces, with Whitman chipping in 10 digs and Olive adding nine.

Jordan Corder provided 36 of the 40 assists credited to the Lady Hawks.

Angela Thurmond registered 13 kills the lead the Lady Chargers. Kelly Wilson (19) and Ashton Baker (16) totaled 35 of the UAH 39 assists. Stacey Sargent stayed busy while tallying 13 digs.

UAH will next be in action on Saturday as they play USC-Aiken in Montevallo, Ala.

Shorter is back in action tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 5 as the West Georgia Lady Wolves make their way to the Winthrop-King Centre for a 7 pm start as another GSC opponent visits Rome.
