SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Savannah residents are kicking off a four-month campaign to clean up the city neighborhood-by-neighborhood.

The Great Savannah Cleanup planned a kickoff event Saturday morning in Wells Park several blocks south of the city's downtown historic district.

City officials have been working with civic groups and a local youth council to organize the campaign. They're expecting up to 200 residents and volunteers to help pick up trash, remove graffiti and pull weeds in overgrown lots. There will also be a drop-off point where residents can discard old car tires.

The cleanup campaign runs through June 30. Residents and businesses that organize neighborhood cleanups during the period will get bags and gloves from the city and its partners, as well as collection and disposal service.
