Shorter Soccer: Hawks fall to Young Harris

Niall McCabe scored three times and Ilija Ilic added two more as host Young Harris posted four goals in the first half and beat Shorter University 5-1.

Irvin Espinal was able to break up the shut out with an unassisted goal in the 40th minute for his sixth goal on the season.

McCabe, who now has 12 goals on the year, scored the first three goals of the match – in the 9th, 15th, and 23rd minutes – as Young Harris jumped out to a 4-0 lead. The Mountain Lions outshot Shorter 10-5 in the first half and 26-9 overall.

Espinal was able to tally two shots, while Guy Hunt had five shots to pressure the defense of the Mountain Lions.

Shorter was playing short one of their best weapons as Robert Ochieng sat out the game, he is tied for the team lead in assists and is near the top in shots this season.

Shorter's goal keepers, Ryan Edwards and Austen Trevers, teamed up to make nine saves on the night.

Shorter (2-8-1) will play at Coker on October 6 at 4 pm before two consecutive home games at Ben Brady Field versus Gulf South Conference opponents. October 12 will see a 5 pm start versus Delta State. Christian Brothers will come to town for a 4:30 pm start on October 14.
