UPDATE: Parade organizer Janet Byington said they've looked at the forecast and the Rome Christmas Parade is on for tonight.

Previously posted

Children smiling and waving to float after float of holiday revelers will fill Broad Street this evening for the annual Rome Christmas Parade.

And organizer Janet Byington is optimistic that wet weather will not be a factor when the parade begins at 6:30 p.m.

“We’ve been watching the forecast and right now everything looks clear,” Byington said Monday evening.

The National Weather Service is predicting a 20-percent chance of rain today. Tonight is expected to be mostly clear with a low around 33.

Lt. Roy Willingham with the Rome Police Department said roads around downtown will begin to be closed to traffic at 5:15 p.m.

Among those being shut down first to allow the 120 entrants in the parade to line up are East First Avenue and the southbound lanes of Glenn Milner Boulevard as well as East Second Avenue.

Broad Street, from East First Avenue to Riverside Parkway, will be closed at approximately 6:20 p.m. and will not reopen until after the parade is over.
