Jeff and K.C. Myers, owners and operators of Water Club Restaurant, answer the questions for today’s Small Business Snapshot.

What is the primary purpose of your business? To provide Cave Spring a social dining experience with fresh, local ingredients and neighborly charm.

What is your business background? Jeff owns two restaurants in Midtown and the Old Fourth Ward districts of Downtown Atlanta — Top Flr and the Sound Table. Both establishments have been well received by the city. Top Flr has been awarded “Top 10 Hottest Wine Bars” in Bon Appetit. Sound Table has received accolades such as one of the “Best 50 Restaurants in Atlanta” in Atlanta Magazine as well as “Best 50 Bars in America” in Food and Wine.

Why did you start this particular business? K.C. has been coming to Cave Spring since she was 16 years old. As a couple, we have continued to visit year after year to enjoy the fresh spring water and breathtaking scenery. We believe this townis one of the Southeast’s greatest treasures. Cave Spring is a place that should be recognized and cherished, and it is important to us to create interest and encourage tourism for this beloved town. The gift that we share is in creating and developing a restaurant that serves as a special meeting place for those that come to visit the spring.

What makes your business unique? Our uniqueness lies in our passion for food and wine. Also, we thrive on creating an environment that highlights our expertise of food while utilizing local sources. We hope to offer a warm and friendly atmosphere in a casual dining setting.

What do you enjoy most about your chosen profession? Our favorite element of our profession is the various types of people we meet. Everybody eats! And, we love to serve. It has been so enriching for us to be able to provide a level of service to our guests that keeps them coming back. We’ve created lasting friendships and continue to bring a sense of community to all that we meet.

What has been the biggest or most interesting challenge to overcome as a small business owner? The biggest obstacle is not knowing that your business will succeed or fail. Yet our experience in this business has shown that we have the ideas and resources to create the ultimate social dining experience, and we hope to continue in our success.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers? Over a year and a half ago, Jeff and K.C. booked a night at the Hearn Inn where they met innkeepers, Phyllis and Harley Campbell. They were so welcoming with their genuine hospitality and warm hearts.  Learning our history as restaurateurs, and getting to know each other, they eagerly planted the seed for us to seek a location in historical Cave Spring to bring our expertise. Now, here we are a year and a half later, starting a restaurant in the beautiful downtown district of Cave Spring. With the help of Martha Jane Montgomery and Lamar Montgomery, we are in the process of rehabilitating the building where Martha Jane had a thriving antique and gift business. We truly couldn’t have done this without the magical support of these Cave Spring angels.

We have three boys, ages 9, 11, and 13. As a family, we’ve been able to experience the spring over the years and have enjoyed all the outdoor activities it has to offer. We hope to inspire our friends to come visit with us as we expand our business to include the lovely historic Cave Spring.
