Expect rain here starting tonight as Tropical Storm Ida makes landfall and douses the Southeast until at least Wednesday.
Georgia climatologist David Stooksbury says most of the northern half of the state is vulnerable to flash flooding because of already swollen streams and saturated soil. He said the ground’s moisture level is in the 99th percentile, which means it would be drier in 99 of the last 100 years.
A flash flood watch will be in effect in Floyd and other area counties from 3 a.m. Tuesday through Wednesday morning. As much as an inch of rain is expected tonight, with up to 4 inches possible Tuesday day and night.
