The Chiefs (13-3-2 overall) dethroned the Boynton Bulldogs, who had dominated the event for the past several years.
The State Championship was the second in the span of three years for the Chiefs, who won the Junior Division of Dizzy Dean in 2010.
Based in Menlo, Ga., the Chiefs have played tournament ball for 10 years and have won numerous tournaments through the years and have finished second in the ’08 in the Sophomore Division, 2nd in the ’09 Junior Division and 2nd in the ’11 Senior Division.
The Chiefs have also finished second twice in the Dizzy Dean World Series, losing the Championship game in ’09 to New Orleans and in ’10 to Florida.
The Chiefs will be looking to avenge these losses when they travel back to Southaven, Miss., for the Dizzy Dean World Series on July 20.
The Chiefs, who’ve had roughly 20 players go on to play at the college level, have players representing Chattooga, Floyd, Polk, Bartow, Cobb, Taylor and Pulaski counties of Georgia and the Alabama counties of Cherokee and St Clair.
