A Floyd County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested on warrants Tuesday after an alleged altercation at Rome High School.
According to Tom Caldwell, chief deputy of the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office:
Melissa McKissick turned herself in and was arrested around 3:30 p.m., charged with battery, affray and causing a disturbance at a public school.
“All I can do at this point is confirm that she was arrested on those charges,” Caldwell said. “She was released on bond late Tuesday afternoon. As far as her status with the Sheriff’s Office, she is on administrative leave pending a resolution of the case. We may make another determination if we get more information through the DA’s investigation.”
According to arrest warrants at the jail, McKissick was reportedly involved in a fight with a student inside Rome High last week. The altercation allegedly occurred in the presence of other students.
Rome Police Department detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.
