The Georgia Secretary of State’s office is investigating the special election for sole commissioner last week in Murray County after receiving a complaint from a citizen, an official with the agency said.

A runoff election for the post is set for July 19 between Greg Hogan and Bruce Reed after none of the 15 candidates received a majority of the votes. Former sole commissioner David Ridley resigned in March.

Connie Winkler, director of the Murray Elections and Registrars Office, said Wednesday she could not comment on the investigation but did confirm she received notice.

Matt Carruthers with the Investigations Division of the Secretary of State office’s confirmed a complaint has been made but said he couldn’t discuss specifics or provide a time frame of when the probe might be completed.
