The Atlanta Braves caravan visited Rome on Monday for an event which introduced the first ever Rome Braves High School Invitational. Numerous local coaches attended the event, which was not open to the public.
The invitational will be played at State Mutual Stadium on March 3 and will feature two games. Armuchee will face Pepperell at noon, and Model will play Coosa at 5:30 p.m.
Monday’s event at State Mutual Insurance’s headquarters was attended by Atlanta Braves general manager Frank Wren, manager Fredi Gonzalez, and players Dan Uggla, Brian McCann and Chipper Jones.
Model head baseball coach Ryan Strickland said his team is excited about getting to play at the Rome Braves’ stadium.
“It’s all they’ve been talking about for a month,” said Strickland. “It being played at a stadium — that’s something they’ll never forget.”
A portion of the proceeds from the games will benefit the local baseball programs.
