Bobby N. Stevens, Karen Moore Whittington and Crystal Turner of King and Queen Salon at Midtown Crossing recently received designation as Certified Design Stylists at the Redken Exchange, voted the No. 1 educational venue in the cosmetology industry 2011.

Stevens, Whittington and Turner studied design principles, finishing principles and the chemistry of styling products which support the finished look. Months were spent in preparing and developing the precision skill sets in cutting and finishing principles that would be executed during the practical portion of the exam. The written portion of the exam covered the chemistry of styling products, their usage when, where, why and how during the styling process. The five essay questions cover blueprinting and correcting challenges with end results during the design process in the salon experience. A technical skills day challenged the participants’ execution of the disciplines to create, recreate or duplicate a shape.
