The Spring 2012 edition of Magnolia magazine publishes Tuesday.

The publication, known for celebrating the lives of local women, will be available at dozens of locations around Greater Rome.

The showcase portraits in the coming edition shine the spotlight on some of Rome’s women who are leaders in community organizations — Nancy Smith, Leigh Barba, Janice Hopkins, Joyce Perdue-Smith, Barb Beninato and Nelle Reagan.

Of course, the popular She Said Q&As return where dozens of local women answer questions posed by the magazine.

“We are beginning the sixth year of Magnolia and the spring edition is filled with lots of fascinating women from our community,” said Charlotte Atkins, editor of the magazine.

The Bon Appetit Y’all section features food as medicine with tips from local medical nutritionists, while Cheers toasts some skinny drink options for spring.

The Home Sweet Home feature is picture perfect as local women share creative ways to display your favorite photos.

For another history lesson, Magnolias of the Past will introduce readers to Ma Rainey, who was considered the “mother of the blues” and lived and worked in Rome in the early 1900s.

For a fitness turn, For the Health of It explores the appeal and benefits yoga.

On the arts front, Brava always celebrates a local creative woman and this time Magnolia is showcasing Danielle Chandler, whose one-of-a-kind jewelry mixes vintage with eclectic.

In 50-Plus and Fabulous, Magnolia celebrates the garden club stalwarts who keep Greater Rome beautiful and well-planted.

And Magnolia Moms explores how to start teaching youngsters how to save money, while Minding Her Own Business ventures to Janice Winterboer’s Twigs in downtown Rome.

The magazine is also filled with ads from area stores and businesses. “Our advertisers have always been in tune with our celebrating women theme and continue to be a major part of the Magnolia spirit,” said Atkins.

Magnolia will be available beginning Tuesday at more than 50 locations in the area, including the Rome News-Tribune, the Rome-Floyd County Library and the Greater Rome Convention and Visitors Bureau. Keep watching for the complete list of locations in ads in coming editions of the Rome News-Tribune.
