Floyd Medical Center’s Occupational Health Services department has partnered with Southeastern Mills (SEM) to provide a new approach to workplace wellness that, this weekend, includes a 5K road race for SEM employees.

Through a comprehensive wellness program, Floyd staffs three onsite clinics and encourages SEM employees to educate and empower employees to make healthy lifestyle changes by providing activity opportunities and individualized wellness coaching.

One such event is the Step into Spring 5K event scheduled for Saturday, April 28. Floyd wellness coaches have been working with SEM employees over the past few weeks, helping them to prepare for the road race. In addition, Floyd provides other wellness activities throughout the year such as annual health assessments, health fairs, Healthy Brown Bag Lunch sessions with onsite nurses and monthly wellness education classes provided by wellness coaches.

Floyd’s customized corporate wellness programs are based on the results of employees’ health risk assessments, determined by answers to a medical history questionnaire and lab tests. With primary risk factors identified, the Occupational Health staff then develops programming targeted eliminating or managing individual employees’ health issues.

As the third leg of this partnership, Garner and Glover, SEM’s insurance provider, provided aggregated insurance usage information, helping SEM and Floyd to improve employees’ health while targeting the health risk factors that could help decrease insurance usage and premiums most.
