With the warmer weather come swimsuit and shorts season and an extra mindfulness toward losing some weight or maintaining it.

And we all know that while a cool drink on a warm day is particularly refreshing, cocktails are empty calories that offer little or no nutritional value and just pack on unwanted calories. For example, a typical frozen margarita can add up to more than 500 calories for a single drink.

So we decided to try to round up some low-calorie cocktail options for springtime.

You can enjoy a cocktail without adding several hundred calories to your daily calorie intake. Here are our nominees for under 200 calories:

Skinny Piña Colada

2 oz. coconut rum

5 oz. coconut water

2 oz. pineapple juice

Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Then shake and strain into a glass filled with ice. Garnish with a slice of pineapple and/or a cherry.

Bethenny Frankel has made low-cal cocktails easy with her bottled SkinnyGirl Margarita and other cocktails, but it is just as easy to make your own. Here are two skinnier versions of margaritas.

Skinny Margarita

Juice of 4 lime wedges

2 ounces of clear premium tequila

Splash of orange liquor

Splash of Grand Marnier or Triple Sec

Combine all ingredients over ice and garnish with a lime wedge

Applebee’s also has a skinny margarita. Here’s how to mimic it:

Skinnier Margarita

Lime Perrier mineral water or lime sparkling water

Juice of two limes

Shot of tequila

Mix all ingredients with ice.

Sour-Apple Martini

Some cocktails that come in a martini glass also come with hundreds of calories (think Cosmo). But give this 160-calorie martini a try.

2 1/2 oz. sour mix

3/4 oz. vodka

3/4 oz. sour apple liqueur

A simple, but refreshing notion is vodka with a lime-flavored soda. Delta airlines have a drink called the Sky Breeze that’s just Fresca, vodka and a splash of cram-apple juice. Of course, don’t make the mistake that some friends and I made in Utile, Honduras, on a scuba adventure. We ordered Fresca and vodka (and enjoyed it immensely after a full day of diving) only to discover that the Fresca Toronja sold there is not the diet drink we are used to here in the States ... . Rather it’s a soft drink with higher sugar content than a regular Coca-Cola. Oops! But vodka mixed with Coca Cola-produced 2-calorie Fresca or others like Sprite Zero or Diet Sierra Mist all offer low-cal options at around 100 calories.

But sometimes the classic cocktails are the way to go and easier on the calorie count.

Gin or Vodka Tonic

There are only about 100 calories in a 1.5 oz of gin or vodka. The tonic adds another 90 calories or you can opt for zero-cal diet tonic.

Champagne

Of course, those who know me know I love my bubbly. The good news is that a 5-ounce glass of Champagne is only about 100 calories. Now that’s something to celebrate!
