Eight youth triathletes from Rome recently competed in the Hy-Vee IronKids National Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

Around 1,000 athletes between the ages of six and 15 traveled across the country to compete in the invitation-only event.

The Roman athletes brought home three podium trophies and a host of accomplished personal goals.

William Tullis tied for second place in the 6-year-old male division; Sam Tullis placed fourth in the 9-year-old male division; Luciano Hasko placed sixth in the 10-year-old male division; Anna Cate Loveman placed 10th in the 10-year-old female division; Kennan Milford placed 10th in the 11-year-old male division; Jane Tullis placed fourth in the 11-year-old female division; Viola Hasko placed 37th in 11-year-old female division; and Clay Milford placed 12th in the 13-year-old male division.

William Tullis made his first national appearance in the event. Clay Milford had the fastest time in his division in the two-mile run portion of the event with a time of 11:38.

Sam Tullis, who has competed in more than 35 triathlons, suffered a crash on his bike after a dropped chain.

The group of athletes is trained by Frazier Cycling & Multisport, Go-Go Running and Three Rivers Swim Club.

The group will next compete in the R.A.C.E. Rome Youth Triathlon at Darlington on Sunday.
