If you have forgotten the incident, allow me to refresh your memory. On Sept. 1, 1983 Korean Air Lines flight 007 was shot down by the Soviet Union while en route to South Korea. All 246 passengers and 23 crew were killed. One of those passengers was Lawrence P. McDonald, then U. S. Representative from Georgia’s old Seventh District, which included Rome and Floyd County.
Perhaps you can see fit to include this tragedy in your “Today In History” next year.
