A Floyd County deputy has been fired and is the subject of a GBI investigation, according to information from the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office.

Donnie Lee had been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. He still has the right to appeal.

According to a news release, the case involves personal behavior that occurred while Lee was employed part-time at Floyd Medical Center, but specifics were not released.

“The internal investigation was completed on Sept. 21, 2012, and the report confirms that Mr. Lee acted in a manner inconsistent with the standards of a sheriff’s office employee,” according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. “He has been found to be in violation of numerous Floyd County personnel board policies and Floyd County Sheriff’s Office general orders.”

In a phone interview, Chief Deputy Tom Caldwell said he could not elaborate about the case because of the GBI investigation, but he did say in the news release, “We have to hold ourselves to a higher standard of behavior, and it’s always disappointing when we fail to. But more importantly, we are going to hold these people accountable for inappropriate behavior every time we are aware of it.”
