From creepy crypts to flying zombies, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office is scaring up some Halloween tricks for the second year in a row.

Zombieland is reopening in a new location, at the old Treasure Island building in front of Mount Berry Square mall on Martha Berry Highway.

The scare fest is the creative effort of Maj. Bob Sapp with the sheriff’s office and his son, Jason Sapp. He said it has been a collective effort, and he’s had help.

“I am passing the torch to Sgt. (James) Womack and Anna Banks,” Sapp said.

Womack and other volunteers were putting the finishing touches on Zombieland earlier this week, making sure all the scares and thrills were working.

Zombieland is different from others in the area, said Sapp. The entrances are wide enough for wheelchairs and other handicapped transports so anyone can tour.

The price for a visit is $5 for children and $8 for adults, but adults who pick up a $3 discount coupon for a full priced ticket at Mount Berry Square can get in for $5 too.

“We wanted to make it affordable for everyone,” Sapp said.

Volunteers have been working to create the scream fest, and donations from Home Depot, Lowe’s and Encore Patel have kept costs at a minimum.

All of the money raised goes to the law enforcement agency’s youth initiatives.

Zombieland opens at 7:30 p.m. and closes when the “the last zombie has been fed,” Sapp said, Thursday through Sunday until Halloween week. It will also be open the Monday and Tuesday before Halloween, which is on a Wednesday this year.
