Two players in Rome who have a desire for healthy lifestyles and community service have partnered together in order to aid children who are affected by cancer.

Summit Quest Adventures and Cycle Therapy bicycle shop have teamed up to support each other’s efforts in providing free outdoor cycling adventures for children who have a parent or loved one facing cancer. The goal for this program is to connect participants with the joys of cycling while enabling them to develop positive coping skills through physical activity.

Summit Quest’s mission is to provide strength, hope, and service while removing the fear that cancer brings into a family and replacing that fear with a sense of courage and understanding. Summit Quest offers free outdoor adventure trips as well as educational and support groups for children ages 6-15. Cycle Therapy is partnering in these programs to offer their support in teaching Summit Quest participants that a bicycle can serve as an avenue of freedom and an escape from the worries that each face along their journey of life.

Summit Quest Adventures will be the beneficiary of the second annual Assail the Trail mountain bike race held on Saturday, November 3 at Jackson Hill in Rome. The race is sponsored by non-profit R.A.C.E. (Racing Awareness Charity Events) whose mission is to support local charities through unique multisport outdoor events designed to promote the community, improve quality of life, develop trails and provide participants with healthy and wholesome outdoor competition. The children of Summit Quest will be provided free entry to the races and in return will aid as volunteers. Categories for the race include: juniors under 12, juniors ages 13-15, a popular first timers race for adults (for those who have never raced mountain bikes), and a short-track cross country event for adults. For more registration information please visit www.usacycling.org or www.racerome.org.
