When I decided to send my children to Coosa I felt confident that this was the best decision. Now I am not so sure. Academically things seem great until what goes on during Friday night football games starts to alter what goes on in the classroom. My family and I have always loved attending Coosa High Schools games. It has become a four-year ritual.
This year has been nothing short of a nightmare. No parent should be allowed to trash talk, speak negatively to or say racial slurs against any player. These are the things that we are having to deal with this year. Why? The sad part is this is a parent of a player on the Coosa team. He speaks badly about the coaches and players every game. The players feel insulted, and we as parents should not have to defend our kids in the stands.
Because of these behavioral disturbances, the possibility of altercations has increased causing parents and supporters to be escorted from the stands for standing up to this act of bullying. Later this man was escorted out once the officers actually identified the problematic adult.
We have complained to the coaching staff, principal and the board of education to no avail. We’ve been told that the situation was handled but in reality the problem still exists. Why isn’t anything being done? Should we have to listen to his ignorance every game? We pay to see our boys play and expect the adults to act appropriately.
Something should be done. This man has been given several chances to act like an adult, so I feel it’s time to for him to be banned from the stands if he cannot control his temper and harsh words.
