CALHOUN — The GEM Theater and Harris Arts Center’s Big Band Series continues with local India Medders Galyean and Chattanooga’s Swingtime Orchestra taking the GEM stage Sunday at 2 p.m.

Medders, a Resaca native, moved to New York City after college and worked steadily as a professional singer and actress for eight years.

She has appeared in the national tour of “Shenandoah” playing the lead role of Anne, on ABC’s “Good Morning America” promoting Lincoln Center’s “Midsummer Night Swing,” and in many of New York’s renowned rooms, such as the Iridium, Irving Plaza, Tavern on the Green and The Russian Tea Room.

One of her more interesting gigs was singing for Ozzy Osborn’s 50th birthday party at The Beverley Hills Hotel.

Medders currently teaches music at Calhoun Middle School and leads CMS’s performing arts program. She continues to sing with several bands in Chattanooga, Nashville and Atlanta.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for GEM and HAC members, and $8 for students, and are on sale now at the GEM and Harris Arts Center box offices and www.calhoungem.org.
