Evon Billups, Floyd County’s elections supervisor, said to her knowledge only two people who have voted early got the wrong ballots and the issue has already been fixed.
Reece, a Democrat from Menlo, is being challenged by Republican Eddie Lumsden, of Rome. The district includes all of Chattooga County and the western half of Floyd County.
“I spent a lot of time the other day with Floyd County elections officials. It appears to be that there are several incidents of whole streets, or portions of streets and neighborhoods, that have been marked as being out of the 12th District, when in fact they are in the district,” Reece said in a press release.
Reece is encouraging voters who suspect they live in the district to double check their ballots. She said she is sending a letter to the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office in an attempt to seek a remedy.
“It is important that every vote be counted,” Lumsden said in a statement sent to the Rome News-Tribune. “I encourage any voter who thinks they have been given the wrong ballot to contact the elections office. I have spoken with Evon Billups and she has explained the situation. They are aware of the problem and I believe they have resolved the issue.”
