Apparently the South Rome Redevelopment Corp. wants nothing to do with having any ideas different from the Rome Schools, its partner in a very important educational and visual enhancement to the continuing revitalization of the area.
The structure, actually in architectural terms being what is known as a “flatiron building” and somewhat rare and found mostly in larger cities, is sound, occupied and in the midst of a condemnation proceeding. As this paper noted this past February, “that area would only be a buffer and part of a “play area” as the actual new Anna K. is set well further back. … Couldn’t it be turned into a new headquarters for South Rome Redevelopment combined with a museum to gather/display artifacts of the days of earlier glory of South Rome/Hillsboro (the suburb there before Rome swallowed it)?”
The outcome of this small citizen protest is probably predictable, resistance supposedly being futile when fighting the equivalent of City Hall. However, if the main group supposedly speaking out to preserve the glory that was South Rome, and which is indeed getting rather difficult to detect, is not willing to do so then the situation may deserve more attention from that community than it thus far has received.
