It won’t long take for the Shorter women’s basketball team to figure out how good they really are this season.

The Lady Hawks don’t officially open the season until Nov. 14 when they travel to Columbus State, but first, they will play two exhibitions games against NCAA Division I schools.

They travel to Starkville, Miss., tonight to take on Mississippi State at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, the Lady Hawks will travel to Tallahassee to take on Florida State at 2 p.m.

The Lady Hawks — who are making the jump this season from the NAIA to NCAA Division II — are coming off one of their best-ever seasons (28-7).

It was the fifth consecutive season that the Lady Hawks have won 20 or more games under head coach Vic Mitchell.

The Lady Hawks also advanced past the first round of the NAIA tournament for the first time.

The Shorter roster features a pair of former local stars — Ieshia Alexander (from Coosa) and Shelby Farrer (from Model).
