Crews near West Third Street and Second Avenue were replacing a sewer line on Friday, and more work will be done in that area next week, according to Rome Public Works Director Jamie McCord.

Roadwork and paving will be taking place on the road near Barron Stadium beginning Monday, according to McCord.

The roadwork and paving will not extend to the former Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority because of potential development in that area, he said.

Duke Hospitality is in talks to build a hotel on a 4.4-acre tract between Barron Stadium and the Oostanaula River.

The current work will be done before the NAIA Championship football game, McCord said.

The 2012 championship game will be played on Thursday, Dec. 13, at Barron Stadium on West Third Street with kickoff slated for 6:30 p.m.

Rome has hosted the game since 2008 and will host the game through at least 2013.
