The other two female drivers from Tuesday’s three-vehicle wreck during which 21-year-old Brooke Michelle Anthony was killed are still being treated at Floyd Medical Center, according to Rome police officer Tony Yarbrough.

According to Yarbrough:

April Nichelle Gales, 27, of Atlanta, was the driver of the GMC cargo van, and Nina Nelson, 25, of Rome, was driving the Ford Explorer. Charges against Gales are pending, according to a Rome Police Department report.

Yarbrough said he checked on the women Thursday morning. Nelson suffers from two broken legs, broken ribs and a punctured lung, and Gales suffers from broken ribs, a punctured lung and a busted spleen.

The wreck occurred on the bypass near Grizzard Park, closing traffic in the westbound lanes just after 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Deputy Coroner Gene Proctor said Anthony, of 480 Turkey Mountain Road, Armuchee, was pronounced dead in the Floyd Medical Center Emergency Room at 5:30 p.m. that day.

Anthony died of multiple, massive traumas, Proctor said, and her body is being sent to the Georgia state crime lab for an autopsy.

Nelson was heading west on the bypass in her Ford Explorer in the outside lane while Anthony was in her green Kia Soul in the inside lane. Gales crossed the median into oncoming traffic.

The GMC van launched into the air and landed on top of the Kia, and while the van was still midair the Explorer drove up under the van.

PREVIOUSLY REPORTED: The 21-year-old driver of a green Kia Soul died on Tuesday night from serious injuries she sustained during a three-vehicle wreck that occurred on the bypass near Grizzard Park, closing traffic in the westbound lanes just after 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Deputy Coroner Gene Proctor said Brooke Michelle Anthony of 480 Turkey Mountain Road, Armuchee, was pronounced dead in the Floyd Medical Center Emergency Room at 5:30 p.m.

Anthony died of multiple, massive traumas, Proctor said, and her body is being sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy.

Rome police were unable to confirm the names of the two other female drivers involved late Tuesday night but did say they were critically injured.

According to Rome police officer Tony Yarbrough:

The driver of a red Ford Explorer was heading west on the bypass in the outside lane while Anthony in her green Kia Soul was next to her in the inside lane. Then, the driver of a white GMC cargo van crossed the median into oncoming traffic.

The GMC van launched into the air and landed on top of the Kia, and while the van was still midair the Explorer drove up under the van.

The van landed upside down in the ditch, and the Kia was on its driver’s side. The Explorer was still upright, facing the ditch.

The woman in the Explorer had her 4-year-old in the car with her, but the child made it out unscathed.
