An elderly Rome woman lost $6,700 in a swindle that was perpetrated between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. Friday, according to police reports.

According to Rome police reports:

The victim was at Burger King on Turner McCall Boulevard when a well-dressed woman knocked on her car with a zippered bag and asked the victim if the bag belonged to her.

The victim said the perpetrator told her the bag was full of money, perhaps as much as $100,000.

The suspect asked for a ride to her lawyer’s office and the victim took the suspect to the 330 Physician’s Building, adjacent to the Floyd Medical Center, where the perpetrator got out of the car and went inside.

A few minutes later, the suspect came back, without the bag supposedly full of money. She said she needed $6,700 for the victim to buy into a deal to split the money.

Initially the victim expressed reluctance but then agreed to go to her bank and withdraw the funds. The victim drove to Citizen’s First but let the suspect out across the street at a service station to get a drink while the victim withdrew the money.

The victim picked up the perpetrator and they drove back to the medical office building where the victim got out with the victim’s funds and never returned.

The suspect was described as a white female, perhaps in her late 20s, with short blonde hair, a brown mini-skirt and light colored top. The victim said the perpetrator looked very professional.

Police said there were no surveillance cameras at either the fast food restaurant or the side of the medical office building where the suspect asked to be let out to assist in identifying the suspect.
