A Rome woman was arrested and charged with DUI after being involved in a wreck Monday morning that occurred near the Relax Inn on North Fifth Avenue, according to Rome police reports.

According to the reports:

Mary Rogers, 35, of Rome, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, driving on an expired tag and failure to maintain lane after the Chevrolet Suburban she was driving flipped on its side and collided with another car.

An empty bottle of vodka was found near Rogers’ vehicle after officers arrived on the scene and a bottle of Xanax with one pill remaining was found inside the vehicle. The bottle’s label said it had been filled for 120 tablets on Oct. 23.

Rogers was traveling north on North Fifth Avenue when her vehicle went up on the curb and struck a utility pole near the Dollar General.

She then overcorrected and began going north in the southbound lane when the vehicle hit the other curb, forcing it to flip and land on its passenger side.

The Suburban then slid down the road, breaking a utility pole next to the Relax Inn and hitting the front of a blue Ford Windstar driven by Jerry Gossett, 76, also of Rome.

Rogers had to be extracted and had visible injuries while Gossett suffered serious injuries to his neck and head. Both were taken to Floyd Medical Center.

Gossett was admitted to the hospital and listed in satisfactory condition Monday night. Rogers was treated and released and booked into the Floyd County Jail.
